WE NEED A PLAN FOR LIFE AFTER LOCKDOWN

COVID disaster payments must continue until entertainment venues are fully open.

National Cabinet has left live entertainment workers out in the cold again.

We’ve had a devastating two years with venues shut and shows cancelled all over the country.

We’re struggling to hold on.

The National Cabinet’s modelling tells us that our struggle will continue as targeted lockdowns limit our audiences through 2022.

COVID disaster payments are due to end soon when we reach 70% full vaccination – a milestone that will occur well before we can fully reopen our industry. But National Cabinet has no plan for how to keep our work alive through next year.

That has to change.

National Cabinet needs to work with us to create a safe and reliable plan for reopening.

This plan must include:

  • Income support for workers and venue capacity subsidies to help deal with the effects of audience restrictions even after lockdowns end.
  • Event cancellation subsidies and COVID insurance for live events.
  • All Australian governments to do the right thing and sign on to our $250 minimum fee for musicians.

We can’t do our job of giving Australians the theatre, the concerts, the nightlife, the fun events they want now more than ever until National Cabinet does its job of creating a national plan for live entertainment.

To join the call for National Cabinet to meet with us and create a safe and reliable plan for reopening, use this simple tool to send an email to the Prime Minister and the state and territory Premiers today.
